Dear Parents, Families, Guardians and Students:
¡Bienvenidos a clase de español 2/3/3H con Ms. Gilbert! It is an honor to be teaching at George Washington High School. I am very excited about this school year because we are going to learn a lot, we will get to know each other well, and we will study in an environment that is respectful, safe, welcoming, creative and academic.
I believe this course contains all the necessary elements for students to produce a high level of Spanish. The students will not only acquire important and advanced skills in Spanish, but these skills will also be necessary to have success in the other academic subjects at Washington. Each person in the class has something important and unique to contribute and to learn. Moreover, each student is capable of attaining success with the support from his or her fellow classmates, the language department and with their own determination. I invite all my students to develop new skills, share their talents, achieve their goals, help one another and enjoy learning!
Here’s a little bit about me. I am from the San Francisco, Bay Area and discovered my love for Spanish at a young age. I quickly developed an appreciation for the language and all the many cultures and customs that speak it. My love for Spanish took me to UCLA and I was one of the first to graduate in a new major called "Spanish, Culture, and Community." This major inspired me to develop the honors program at Wash and has informed my view on language learning and cultural integration. Following various trips to countries like Mexico, Costa Rica and Spain, post graduation I decided to move to Spain to fully master the language and become bilingual and bicultural. After living abroad for 3 years I wanted to begin a new chapter in my life, becoming a Spanish teacher in California.
Please feel free to contact me at any time with questions, comments, or concerns. You may submit a message via the contacts page, or by email at [email protected].
I hope we can all work together as a team in the support and victory of our students. Go Eagles! ¡Vamos Águilas!
Sincerely,
Ms. Gilbert
